WS Story to be Recreated with Cast from Drama!?

(Story) WS Anime…Scheduled Broadcast Date, Fall 2009
Jun Sang flies off to New York from Incheon Airport in order to undergo eye surgery. Architect Jun Sang lives quietly in the town of Brooklyn Heights, where beautiful nightscape and various types of 19th century buildings stand aligned. He wanders alone through the subway and the city, looking forlorn. In his pocket is a nostalgic 500 won Korean coin. When he sees it, he remembers back to the irreplaceable memories that he shared with Yujin…
From March 27-30 at the Tokyo International Anime Fair 2008 held at the Tokyo Big Sight in Yumei, Tokyo, the production press conference for the WS anime
was held on the second day of March 28.
Attending the press conference were four people; the president of Total Promotion, the company that secured the anime rights, WS anime production committee president, Sakanaka Akio, BOFi president, Bae Seung Woo, Key East’s Lim Jung Hyon, who will act as producer, and Real Thing Entertainment, Nakayama Daisuke, who created the trailer. Each of the four spoke of their involvement in the WS anime, and then the one minute 20 second trailer along with BYJ’s video letter was shown.
Total Promotion secured the rights to the anime version of WS about a year ago. Then in June 2007, a production committee was formed in Japan and with Key East’s participation, the project began taking shape. The storyline will shortly be announced step-by-step on the official homepage and plans are for the TV series to be broadcast in 26 episodes with each episode running 30 minutes each on terrestrial stations in Korean and Japan. It will first be aired in Korea and then later in Japan.
This is a joint production between Korean and Japan. Japan, known for its quality animation production techniques, will draft the basic characters and overall structure after which the actual production work will be done in Korea.
Key East’s Lim Jung Hyun, when asked what the noteworthy things are in the anime version said, “BYJ’s voiceover, the lush music of the full orchestra, and the sound effects using Mother Nature.”
BOFi’s Bae Seung Woo said, “We would like WS fans worldwide, along with BYJ fans and also children, to view this anime.”
Following that, the just completed trailer played on the screen. Because it was anime, we thought that it would be geared toward children but its design seems to be that even adults will enjoy this. Jun Sang flew off to New York for his eye surgery. He wanders through the city forlornly. There is a nostalgic 500 won Korean coin in his coat pocket. As soon as he sees it, he begins remembering the treasured days he spent with Yujin… and so went the story.
The images were beautiful and sophisticated, raising our expectations for this anime version. Mr. Daisuke Nakayama, who produced the trailer, has previously done character designs for Ghost in the Shell and Princess Mononoke and supervised videos for Utada Hikaru. If Mr. Nakayama is laying the foundation for these images, then we have nothing to worry about.
Lastly, BYJ’s comment in the video letter was, “WS is a precious project for me as it brought a closer bond between me and the Japanese family. I decided to take part in this project knowing that it would be a fun project.” I recalled the emotion of 2003-2004 when the drama aired in Japan.
After the production press conference, Kato Eiho, production supervisor, gave an explanation at the booth that the anime version would tell the story of Jun Sang and Yujin briefly separating after the last episode of the drama version, and in the very end, reuniting at the “impossible house” on Oedo but the story will portray what happens in the three year period of their separation and time after their final reunion. I thought that the WS drama was going to be made as is into the anime but that is not the case. If so, then expectations loom large.
Finally, big news for fans is that negotiations are underway for the anime script to be written by the same writers of WS, Kim Eun Hye and Yun Eun Kyung.
Voiceovers will be done by not only BYJ but talks are underway for the members of the drama version to assemble such as Choi Ji Woo and Park Yong Ha.
The cast is expected to be announced at the end of May or in June.
*bb: am sure you would have heard by now... CJW has agreed to do the voiceover.
BYJ is studying Japanese and is considering taking on the challenge of doing the voiceover in Japanese. If everything becomes a reality, then there is no happier news for fans than this.
KBS will be the broadcast station in Korea for the anime. But the target air date will be fall 2009. It seems that production takes an inordinate amount of time,
which was the sense we got from those there. But it seems that if we sit tight and remain patient, it will all be worth it.
p.s. the target air dates seem to be abit 'confusing'.... while this article says fall 2009, i've read elsewhere that says april 2009. shrugs... as with all BYJ projects, it will complete when it completes, and it will air when it airs.
