Yonsama, “Six-Month Filming” Starts,
GKFG, Tension-Filled Summer in Seoul
BYJ began filming GKFG on July 11th. Since the “gosa” ceremony in March,
this was the first actual filming to take place.
Filming has progressed among various studios around the Seoul area.
The July 13th issue of the Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo reported that crank-in has finally taken place.
A spokesperson for Yonsama’s production office said this,
“Preparation for the costume fittings has been completed and filming has finally begun.
Filming is underway for all scenes that will be broadcast.
Because this is a drama that is produced before broadcast,
extensive preparation is essential.”
MBC plans to begin broadcasting this drama in early 2007,
which means that this is the start of a six-month filming schedule.
Regarding the crank-in, we confirmed with a SSD Japanese spokesperson,
the promotion company for GKFG, “Yong Joon-san is on location filming.
That is all I can say now.”
[bb: SSD is the drama’s appointed PR company]
Finally it appears that filming has begun.
What scenes were filmed on this day?
A person connected to the drama said,
“The filming at this time appears to be test filming only.
There probably aren’t any plans to broadcast these scenes.
It appears that it was only filming done to capture the ambience of the filming location.”
With an overall production cost of 430 billion won (about 52 billion yen),
it appears that filming is proceeding carefully.
According to SSD, negotiation is underway to distribute this drama to 90 countries around the world.
One question, which is a hot topic among a portion of fans,
is who will play the part of “Yonsama’s lover”, the role of Suzeeny
– so we asked SSD,
“The role has been cast but the announcement will not be made until the last minute.”
It appears that there still many more surprises ahead.
Here we have some unfortunate news to report.
The “Hallyu Expo” Grand Opening Event scheduled for August 30,
the day after Yonsama’s birthday, has been postponed.
According to a “Hallyu Expo” spokesperson,
“We are postponing the opening so that we may prepare more thoroughly,
with the hope of bringing each visitor a memorable experience.”
But another spokesperson had this to say.
“Fans of Yong Joon-san grabbed all flight reservations to Jejudo for August 30,
leaving all flights nearly sold-out.
Because of that, the official tours could not be organized …”
The only people allowed to attend the opening event
are those signed up on the official tours
but if the planes are full, then there are no official tours.
At the earliest,
details regarding the official tours will be re-announced next month.
